Mobile devices, such as smartphones, smartwatches and even moving vehicles, can be utilized as a universal sensing platform to perceive the environment or user information of great interest. For example, a smartphone can do a lot of fantastic things, ranging from localizing an acoustic source at distance and measuring the depth of objects in indoor scenarios to perceiving the speed of vehicles and profiling potholes on road. The main challenge encountered in these studies is how to obtain accurate information from raw coarse sensor readings due to low-end sensors and their restricted placement on mobile devices. In most cases, there is no prior information about the scenarios is available, which makes the problem even harder.
